Resolutions have become so commonplace in our culture. A New Year's resolution starts with a radical change that we want to make or an ideal persona that we want to possess. It is sometimes a physical image of our ideal body, an attitude change that will help us see the world differently, or even something as benign as getting more sleep on a nightly basis (I am trying that this year). The easy part of a resolution is in the mind's eye. The difficult part is the execution.
The execution is so tough, in fact, thatmost people start off with a great passion at the idea of a fresh start. This lasts for about two months before the fire starts to fizzle. Then it becomes a weekly resolution, "I'll start on Monday"....A few of the things that derail the great intentions of the individual trying to better themselves are a) failure to plan properly, b) not enlisting a positive group of people to help with accountability, and c) not taking the time each morning to refresh that image in the mind.
This year, really think about a change that you want to make in your life. Sit down and come up with a plan of attack. If you need to, find the right people that can help you develop this plan. Look for people that represent that change you want to make and seek their counsel. Get the plan together NOW so that you can jump while the 'New Year's Resolution' mindset is HOT!
Next, surround yourself with positive people that really care about you and your goals. Ask them to hold you accountable or just check in on your progress as the year goes by. Don't take any of their feedback personally, because you know they have your best interests at heart. There is no bigger factor to one's success in this process than having the support necessary for positive change!
Finally, whether you pray, meditate, or just self-talk, it is imperative that you take at least 5-10 minutes each morning to FOCUS on the day's goal. This little ritual will pay big dividends in the long run. The simple practice of this morning ritual is a great way to train your mind to become disciplined in the areas that will bring you success.
This year, let's make 2017 a year of REAL change large or small. Preparation, support, and taking the steps necessary to keep focused will lead to a year of progress, fulfillment, and ultimately a radical change you can be proud of!
